Arsenal silence a quarter of their critic last saturday as they beat second place Liverpool 2-0 at the emirate. Among the yet to be won over is the Match of the Day pundit and former Premier League winner
has rubbished claims that the
Gunners can win the league,
stating that they haven’t played
one of the ‘big 3’ yet.
Dortmund face Arsenal this week in
what will be the second of their two
Champions League group stage
encounters, having emerged
victorious at the Emirates Stadium a
fortnight ago.
Klopp’s side did not have it all their
own way in London, with Arsenal
enjoying plenty of the ball and
creating numerous chances. However,
Dortmund’s high-intensity and
strength in transitions won through,
earning a 2-1 victory.
Arsenal will go into the intimidating
Westfalen Stadion confident they can
regain control of their Champions
League group.
Arsene Wenger’s team looked to be
cruising towards qualification for the
knockout round going into the home
clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund are in terrific form coming
in to this game on a back of a 6-1
drubbing of Stuttgart in the German
Bundesliga and Jurgen Klopp will look
to make the home advantage count
against a solid Arsenal side.
Arsenal have been a bit unpredictable
in their last couple games but will go
into this game with renewed
confidence after beating a strong
Liverpool side 2-0 in the League on
the back of defeats to Chelsea and
Dortmund at home in Cup competitions.
The lack of options in various areas
of the pitch for Arsene Wenger though
will be a huge concern for the
Gunners’ management going into this
midweek game.

Dear Arsenal supporter,
Everybody was talking about Jack
Wilshere’s goal after Saturday’s
game against Norwich City and it
was certainly one of the best goals
I’ve ever seen.
I especially enjoyed it because it
was a team goal. It had combinations
and the speed which you always like
your team to play with. There was a
mixture of technical quality, quick
thinking, quick reactions and
calmness in front of goal. It was a
great, improvised goal.
We won the game 4-1 but you can’t
say that it was completely
comfortable, even though Norwich’s
keeper was busy. They played well
and at 1-0 and then 2-1 they gave
us some difficult moments.
I was asked in my post-match press
conference whether this Arsenal
team reminds me of the team that
went unbeaten in 2003/04 and of
course it’s much too early to make
comparisons like that.
But I must say we have a good
attitude, we are hungry, and we
have a good solidarity level. We
certainly get that as well from the
fans, who have been right behind us.
We clearly have quality, but how far
we will go is down to how consistent
we can be, how much effort we put
into every single game and how
careful we are not to get into a
comfort zone. You have to avoid
that at the top level.
Self-belief is important and of
course it is strengthened by every
win. In recent years we have been
playing catch-up so it’s good to lead
from the front this season. But
there is a long way to go so let’s
just focus on developing as a team
and keeping our solidarity.
A quick word on Mathieu Flamini,
who went off on Saturday. He had
concussion, so on the advice of the
doctor I took him off because I did
not want to take any gamble. As a
result of the concussion, he cannot
play against Dortmund, but he
should be OK for Saturday.
Even without Mathieu we have
plenty of midfielders and, with
seven games in 23 days, we will
need everybody. I will juggle my
options and everybody will play.

Arsenal are turning the
toughest looking Champions League
group into a walk in the park so far
and they would take a huge stride
towards their customary place in the
last 16 with victory over Borussia
Dortmund on Tuesday.
“We have two very difficult games
coming up against Dortmund,” Arteta
told Arsenal`s website

These two sides also
met twice in the group stages of the
Champions League in 2011 when a
Robin van Persie brace secured a
home win for the Gunners while a
stunning late equalizer from Ivan
Perisic secured one point for Dortmund in the return fixture.News on the injury front for Dortmund is not very encouraging though as the likes of Lukas Piszczek and Ilkay Gundogan will miss out with long term injury worries while the likes of Marcel Schmelzer and Sebastien Kehl are also doubtful having not fully recovered from their injuries.

Arsene wenger is a happy man at the moment with all things working for him. The return of last season best performer in the form of santi Carzola is a welcome development while the duo of Jack and Ramsey are doing wonderfully well with jack grabbing what has been dubbed goal of the century on saturday against Norwich.

team have reached the knockout
rounds of the Champions League in
every season since Uefa abolished
the second group stage 10 years
ago although even the Invincibles did not
have it this tough. The class of
2003-04 were the last Arsenal side
to really struggle in the group
stages but, after gaining just one
point from their first three matches,
they rallied to win their last three,
finishing above Internazionale,
Dynamo Kyiv and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Since then the group draws have
pitted Arsenal against at least one
duff side and their passage to the
do-or-die rounds has been relatively
secure. This season there are no
such things as a gimme: Marseille,
Borussia Dortmund and Napoli are all
capable of finishing above the
Londoners.
Arsenal made a good start by
returning from their opening game in
Marseille with three points but
Tuesday’s opponents, Napoli, made
an even more impressive one,
beating last year’s runners-up,
Dortmund.
“For Napoli to beat Dortmund is
certainly something very special and
it will lift their confidence,”
acknowledged Wenger, who was
given an early warning of the threat
posed by the Italians during a pre-
season game at the Emirates, when
Napoli hurtled into a 2-0 lead before
two late goals salvaged a draw for
the hosts.
Both teams have strengthened since
then, Arsenal signing Mesut Özil and
Napoli completing a summer revamp
under Rafael Benítez in which they
reinvested the £55m they received
from Paris Saint-Germain for
Edinson Cavani to bring in eight new
players.
One of their recruits, Gonzalo
Higuaín, had been on the verge of
joining Arsenal before Real Madrid
moved the goalposts and sold the
striker to Napoli instead. Wenger
knows that containing the
Argentinian is one of the major
challenges facing the Arsenal’s
defence but notes that, with Özil
around, Napoli will also have to keep
a close eye on a former Real player.
“In the end Real Madrid sold two
great players, one of them went to
Napoli, one went to Arsenal so it’s
1-1 on that front!”
Napoli bought two other players
from Real – Raúl Abiol and José
Callejón – as well as the exciting
Belgian winger Drei Mertens, but
Wenger is especially wary of an
Italian youngster who was already
on their books. Lorenzo Insigne
tormented England Under-21s in the
summer’s European Championship
and has begun this season in similar
style.
“Insigne is mobile, he is not tall but
quick and very good in the transition
from defence to attack and he is a
good dribbler as well and is an
intelligent mover,” says Wenger.
“That makes him an interesting
prospect for Napoli, and of course a
dangerous player for us on Tuesday
night.”
The natural instinct of Wenger’s
team is to attack but the managers
know they must show equal zeal in
defence on Tuesday if they are to
qualify From Such A Group.

Arsenal take a trip to the valedrom stadium which is now a familiar ground for the gunners having taken all 3points at their last visit through Aaron Ramsey last gap goal that secured a 1-0 win.
Aaron grabbed 2 goals in the 3-1 win away at sunderland and has been highly influential for the arsenal midfield.
Giroud got his first non london goal and make it four goals in four premier league matches and he will be hoping to keep his form and show the french football fans what the should expect from him. Mezut Ozil, arsenal new boy also opened his account on a good note getting one assist and was involved in so many goal bound passes that were missed.
